Shockwave therapy at Harbourside
Due to its growing body of evidence as a noninvasive treatment alternative for a wide-range of musculoskeletal conditions, Harbourside Physiotherapy is proud to offer Shockwave Therapy to the North Island.
As is the case with all of our services, the first step is to determine if Shockwave is an appropriate piece of your personalized treatment plan. Following your initial assessment, once your Physiotherapist has had a chance to get to know you and learn more about your current condition, they may recommend Shockwave as an additional treatment modality to get you back to the things you enjoy.

about shockwave therapy
Shockwave works by introducing high-energy sound waves to tissues where pathological alterations have occurred. This may include: tendons, ligaments, capsules, muscles and bones. The stimulus provided by Shockwave is believed to have a number of beneficial mechanisms. Primarily, it is thought to increase circulation and growth factors necessary for new tissue turnover. Additionally, the hyperstimulation of nerve endings locally is thought to also help reduce pain associated with injury.
The pulse provided by Shockwave is often described as an elastic band being snapped on the skin. Generally, the intensity of Shockwave can be adapted to provide benefit therapeutically while still being relatively comofortable for the patient.
